How to Play Wild HOLDem FOLDem

Deuces are wild in this game, which plays a lot like Let It Ride. The objective is to make a pair of Aces or higher from a five-card hand. You make an Ante Bet, then are dealt three cards face down. After examining your cards, you must decide whether to fold’em (and forfeit your Ante Bet) or to hold’em by making a Play Bet equal to the Ante Bet. Players are dealt a fourth card and must decide again whether to fold’em (and forfeit the Ante and Play Bets) or to raise by betting 2x their Ante Bet in the Raise square. All players still in the game receive the fifth and final card. Payoffs are based on the rank of the five-card hand. You get your Ante bet back if you have a pair of Aces, and payoffs escalate from there, as the rank of the hand increases, with a max payoff of 1000 – 1 for a natural Royal flush.

A quick-and-dirty strategy, from Michael Shackleford (, is with three cards bet if your hand contains a Deuce, any Pair, Three-of-a-Kind, Three-to-a-Flush, and Three-to-a-Straight. With four-cards, raise any hand containing a Deuce, Any Pair, Two Pair, Three-of-a-Kind, and Four-to-the- Straight, Flush, or Straight Flush. Fold if you don’t have any of the above hands. The overall return is 96.8%.
